The Bookies Favourites:

  1. OLIVIA COLMAN The Favourite 2/7
  2. GLEN CLOSE The Wife 7/2
  3. LADY GAGA A Star Is Born

Our Winner:

  • Olivia Colman (The Favourite) – To play such a deprecating role with such poise and class is testament to just how far Olivia has come in her nearly 20 years on our screens and bodes extremely well for her next royal role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown.

The BAFTA Winner

  • Olivia Colman (The Favourite)

A Star is Born 2018 A worthy remake that grew on me as it went. Both lead roles were played very well and the songs were good, but I didn't buy some of the emotional bits and the British manager was just awful. Gordon 7
Can You Ever Forgive Me? 2018 True story of a down on her luck author who forges literary correspondence to make ends meet. I can't agree with Oscar nominations for McCarthy or Grant, but it is a nice film that has enough humour without becoming the kind of farce both are usually in. Gordon 7
The Favourite 2018 A quirky period tale of two cousins fighting for the attentions of the Queen. Coleman and Stone are superb and the direction inventive, but the story sags quite heavily before a polarising end. Gordon 8
The Wife 2017 Great performance from Glen Close and an interesting tale of the woman behind the man being far more than meets the eye. Gordon 8
Widows 2018 American update of the Linda LaPlant heist drama from the 80s (I think). Great pacing, a brilliant performance from Viola Davis and a story that doesn't descend into gratuitous gunplay like many of its type. Gordon 8
