The MovieMuse Reviews (MovieViews) database is a searchable collection of films that the team have watched, providing a comprehensive guide on what to watch and what to avoid. It provides a link to an in-depth review or a short opinion on the film and a rating, as well as a link to the film’s poster or DVD cover. For more recent entries we are also including a link to the film’s IMDb page and a trailer from YouTube.
You can search and sort the list by individual film names, genre, reviewer, score and other variables to inform you on whether a film is worth your time, or to inspire you for your next movie night.
We will also use the database to create periodic lists of the recommended films in all sorts of categories. These lists will be shared on the website and some will even come with a video.
Poster | Movie | Year | Genre | Comments | Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Le Mans '66 | 2019 | 3, 7 | Billed as Ford vs Ferrari, this 'based on a' true story is more Ford vs Ford. Great performances and a beautiful 70s sheen make it a very easy watch (once you get over Bale's dodgy accent). | 8 | |
Frozen II | 2019 | 2, 8, 9 | The songs may not be as catchy and the story is a little convoluted, But Frozen 2 is another fine entry into Disney's girl power catalogue. | 7 | |
Angel Has Fallen | 2019 | Action, 20 | Gerard Butler is a one man world saver (again). Certainly not the worst film in the series, but it has all been done better elsewhere and some of the tech is quite laughable. Hopefully all thefalling is now finished! | 6 | |
Hustlers | 2019 | 3, 5, 7 | The 'interview' segments in this Stipper's revenge drama really don't work and despite a couple of good performances, there is little of note in the script or in fact in the true story that it comes from. | 6 | |
The Grinch | 2018 | 2, 4, 8 | Despite some token hip-hop that feels out of place, this retelling of the Dr Seuss classic does easilly as good a job as the live action alternative. | 7 | |
John Wick : Chapter 3 - Parabellum | 2019 | Action, 5, 20 | Feeling a little too much like a greatest hits collection of fight sequences, Parabellum is a lot of fun, but aso slightly disappointing. | 6 | |
Ray & Liz | 2018 | 7 | A powerful yet depressing look at poverty within a failing family during during the height of Thatcher's Britain. | 7 | |
Olaf's Frozen Adventure | 2017 | 2, 8, 18 | Animated to the same standards of the theatrical film it followed and a worthwhile addition to the Frozen lore. | 7 | |
In Fabric | 2018 | 4, 11 | A wonderfully odd tale of a demonic red dress that terrorises each new owner. A real gem for fans of quirky British cinema. | 8 | |
Abominable | 2019 | 1, 2, 8 | Despite an very odd looking Yeti character, Abominable is quite a nice and inoffensive tale with a conservationist slant. | 7 | |
Blinded by the Light | 2019 | 4, 7, 12 | A Pakistani Adrian Mole finds a way out of his humdrum existence through the music of Bruce Springsteen. An unlikely true story that goes nowhere, but entertains all the same. | 7 | |
Trolls | 2016 | 1, 2, 4 | Beautifully animated product placement for Justin Timberlake that is often fun but never that funny. | 6 | |
Berberian Sound Studio | 2012 | 11 | A British sound engineer travels to Rome to work on an Italian Horror film in this wonderfully indulgent audiophile extravaganza. | 7 | |
Die Hard 2 | 1990 | Action, 20 | While it never reaches the balls-out heights of the original movie, Die Harder is more than just a cheap re-tread as Christmas killjoy terrorists this time take over an airport. | 7 | |
Katalin Varga | 2009 | 7 | A stunningly shot revenge drama is a feast for they eyes that despite its subject matter could be an advert for the Romanian countryside. | 7 | |
Jojo Rabbit | 2019 | 4, 7, 21 | Whilst not up with his best films (like Hunt for the Wilderpeople), this satire of a very touchy subject is touching and often funny. | 7 | |
X-Men: Dark Phoenix | 2019 | Action, 1 | A film almost completely devoid of value, it is a pointless entry into the X-Men franchise and showcases the worst effects, acting and script that Marvel has produced in 20 years. | 4 | |
Mountain Picnic Blues: The Making of Tellin' Stories | 2013 | 6, 12 | Far more than just the Charlatans seminal 5th album, the film charts the band from their formation right up to the albums release, just after the tragic death of keyboard player Rob Collins. | 8 | |
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood | 2019 | 3, 7 | It's a bit disingenuous to call it 'the Mr Rodgers film' when its focus is the jaded journalist who interviewed him. But the characters are interesting and uplifting feeling flows througout. | 7 | |
Ad Astra | 2019 | 7, 13 | A great performance from Brad Pitt as a washed up astronaut on a save-the-world mission to find his renegade space adventurer dad. Deeper and more satisfying than it sounds. | 8 | |
The Tiger Who Came To Tea | 2019 | 2, 8, 18 | Another children's classic brought to life with such charming style that you will smile throughout. Children the world over will now be wishing for the Tiger to come to their house! | 8 | |
The Gruffalo's Child | 2011 | 2, 8, 18 | With the same beautiful animation and voice work, the story unfortunately falls a little short of the original Gruffalo. Still a charming family adventure. | 7 | |
The Gruffalo | 2009 | 2, 8, 18 | The classic kid's book is lovingly animated and brought to stunning life by great voice performances. A fitting tribute to Julia Donaldson's source material. | 8 | |
Stick Man | 2015 | 2, 8, 18 | A magically heart warming tale of a humble stick's journey home. Stunningly animated and heart breaking in places, but ultimately uplifting and joyful. Beautiful. | 9 | |
Disturbia | 2007 | 20 | An enjoyably tense suspense thriller with a premise that borrows liberally from Rear Window and Fright Night and yet still seems fresh thanks to the mostly young cast. | 7 |
