Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2011 Depicting the calm before the storm, Rise is a magnificent start to a wonderfully reimagined trilogy. This is how to do a reboot! Gordon 8
Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2011 A rare exception of a franchise reboot that works, this is a clever and intense thriller with great mo-cap CGI performances and action. However, the touching story that underpins the film is what sets this apart from the normal big studio offerings. Mat 8

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) 130min | Action, Adventure, Drama | 17 July 2014 (Netherlands) Summary: A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2014 Talking both the tension and the action up a notch, Dawn is easilly as good as Rise and cements Caesar as one of the best movie characters of the 00's. Gordon 8
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2014 The franchise reboot continues to surprise with another high quality offering. More action-orientated than its predecessor, but still with a thrilling and thought-provoking story. The CGI is top notch and Andy Serkis is superb as lead ape Caesar. Mat 8

War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) 140min | Action, Adventure, Drama | 13 July 2017 (Netherlands) Summary: After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.

War for the Planet of the Apes 2017 Astoundingly good CG effects and a decent, if sometimes predictable story bring this trilogy to a satisfying end. For me, slightly less enjoyable than its predecessors, but overall this has probably been the best franchise reboot in cinema history. Mat 7
War for The Planet of the Apes 2017 Another classy entry to close the best reboot trilogy of the 21st century. Heart, action and humour. I'd like to see more moral conflict if the franchise continues though. Gordon 8

  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
  • War for the Planet of the Apes

Summary

Washing away the pain of Tim Burton’s attempt, it is hard to overstate just how good a reboot this trilogy is. Covering the full arc of how humans can go from dominant species to subservient mutes, all three films are of the highest quality in terms of story, drama, visuals and heart. It has been confirmed that further films will explore Caesar’s legacy and we are as excited as anyone to go back to The Planet of the Apes.
