The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

The sheer joy of returning to Middle Earth is tempered by Jackson's bloated adaptation, but the key characters are well acted, the scenery is amazing and the scenes with Bilbo and Gollum are brilliant. A great start to an admittedly unnecessary trilogy.
