MovieViews

The MovieMuse Reviews (MovieViews) database is a searchable collection of films that the team have watched, providing a comprehensive guide on what to watch and what to avoid. It provides a link to an in-depth review or a short opinion on the film and a rating, as well as a link to the film’s poster or DVD cover. For more recent entries we are also including a link to the film’s IMDb page and a trailer from YouTube.

You can search and sort the list by individual film names, genre, reviewer, score and other variables to inform you on whether a film is worth your time, or to inspire you for your next movie night.

We will also use the database to create periodic lists of the recommended films in all sorts of categories. These lists will be shared on the website and some will even come with a video.

Star Crash 1978 1, 17 Click to see our Film Club review. 5
War on Everyone 2016 4, 5 Not quite the riot I was hoping for but it has plenty of laughs and all of the main 5 or 6 actors are great. I hope we get to see Detectives Terry Monroe and Bob Bolano again. 7
Blue Ruin 2013 5, 7, 20 A slow and gorgeous tale of having nothing left to live for but revenge. 8
Goosebumps 2016 1, 8, 11 Family-friendly fun that should satisfy fans of Ghostbusters and Gremlins, but is let down by some hammy acting and below-par CGI. 6
Coherence 2013 13, 17, 20 Click to see our Film Club review. 3.8
Ghostbusters 2016 Action, 4, 9 Click to see our detailed review. 5
Alien 1979 11, 17, 20 Click to see our Box Set review. 9
The Drop 2014 5, 7, 13 A different type of 'ripping off the mob' story that has the option to take many bloody twists but fights the urge. 7
The Squid and the Whale 2005 4, 7 Touching tale about the impact of divorce. Daniels and Eisenberg are great. 8
Together in Electric Dreams 2014 3, 4 A great play with lots of great humour and geek kicks. I'd love to see a proper film made of it rather than just the play. 8
The Girl on the Train 2016 7, 13, 20 Another film that many will turn off too early due to its slow start. The second half is excellent as you see start to see what actually happened. 7
Sex Lives of the Potato Men 2004 4 The shortness of the film is its only saving grace. 4
Shade 2003 5, 20 Twists and double crosses are far too obvious, though Stallone excels (and is probably too good for the film). 5
Shenmue The Movie 2001 1, 2, 7 Made completely from in-game cutscenes, removing the gameplay has also removed everything good about the game. Leaving a shallow story and some awful dialogue. 4
Shooter 2007 Action, 5, 20 An exciting, though bog standard thriller. 6
Sicario 2015 Action, 5, 7 A great first half descends into hysterical girl fights bad good-guys for doing bad things for good reasons. 6
Sightseers 2012 1, 4, 5 A dark, funny and surprising film with some amazing scenery and top notch performances. 8
Silent Running 1972 1, 17 An engaging tale despite terrible acting, shoddy effects and a bizarre soundtrack. 6
Sing Street 2016 4, 7, 12 Trademark John Carney, but can't hit the heights of Once. Not helped by being unable to connect with the lead character. 6
Slash 2016 4, 7 Despite its desperation to be edgy and subversive it misses the mark and ends up like an episode of Dawson's Creek at an erotic fan-fiction and cosplay convention. 4
