MovieViews

The MovieMuse Reviews (MovieViews) database is a searchable collection of films that the team have watched, providing a comprehensive guide on what to watch and what to avoid. It provides a link to an in-depth review or a short opinion on the film and a rating, as well as a link to the film’s poster or DVD cover. For more recent entries we are also including a link to the film’s IMDb page and a trailer from YouTube.

You can search and sort the list by individual film names, genre, reviewer, score and other variables to inform you on whether a film is worth your time, or to inspire you for your next movie night.

We will also use the database to create periodic lists of the recommended films in all sorts of categories. These lists will be shared on the website and some will even come with a video.

The Witch 2016 11, 13 Tense and just a little bit sick. Keeps you on your toes despite its heavy dialogue. 8
Army of One 2016 1, 4 Deliberately stupid with a cheesy voice over, but Cage's performance and a huge amount of heart win you over. 6
Them! 1954 11, 17 Click to see our Film Club review. 3.3
Arrival 2016 7, 13, 17, 20 Intelligent and very well made sci-fi mystery that just saves itself from the over sentimentality. 8
They Live 1988 Action, 11, 17 Smart and funny political-Sci Fi-satire with a brilliant turn by Roddy Piper and THAT fight scene. 8
Arthur Christmas 2011 1, 2, 4 Run of the mill Christmas tale, but has some wonderful characters and comedy moments. 7
Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning 2012 Action, 2, 17 Superb concept that fails to translate into a good movie. Hopes are high for the rumoured live action remake though. 5
Assassin's Creed 2016 Action, 1, 9 The effects, acting and set pieces are all fine, but are let down horribly by a truly dreadful story that loses everything that made the games good. 5
Time After Time 1979 1, 4, 7, 17 A superb concept (HG Wells travels through time to catch Jack the Ripper), but falls between comedy and drama when it would have been netter to pick a side. 6
Assault on Precinct 13 1976 Action, 5, 20 A tense and stylish twist on the ‘storm the fort’ western. 8
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy 2011 13, 20 Very stylish and an unbelievable cast, but just a smidge too thoughful and slow. 7
Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) 2005 Action, 5, 20 Loses all of the tension and grit of the original to deliver a run of the mill cop thriller. 5
Attack the Block 2011 Action, 4, 17 A gang of South-London teens fight back against an alien invasion. A brilliant British take on the Sci-Fi action comedy, with great effects and spot on humour. 8
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider 2001 Action, 1, 9 A ludicrous script makes Lara into an 80s movie action hero, rather than making an action movie out of Lara. Female Indiana Jones this certainly isn't. 3
The Avengers 2012 Action, 9, 17 The Avengers exploded onto our screens to breathe new life into the Marvel universe. And boy did we need it! 8
Traders 2015 20 An interesting and daring low budget thriller. With a better director, cast and budget this could be a Fight Club for the next generation. 7
Avengers: Age of Ultron 2015 Action, 9, 17 Click to see our detailed review. 6
Traitor 2008 5, 20 Some nice twists and an engaging cast make the film interesting and exciting (even if the ending is a tad long). 8
Basic 2003 Action, 5 Despite its A-list cast, the film is exactly what it says on the tin. 5
Trespass Against Us 2016 5, 7 Oddly heartening tale of goodness in bad people. Fassbender is on great form. 8
The Take (Bastille Day) 2016 Action, 20 Enjoyable action film with one of the worst end credits songs in history. Idris, put down the mic! 6
Triple 9 2016 Action, 5, 7 Starts as a 4, ends as a 3 and drops to a 2 in the middle. A good film that avoids greatness by not being able to maintain its momentum. 6
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016 Action, 9, 17 The film was slow without Snyder's over-use of the slo-mo and almost certainly ends his ownership of the Superman movies. 5
Trumbo 2015 3, 7 An excellent story that needed to be told. Has scary parallels to Donald Trump's distorted view of the world. 8
Beasts of No Nation 2015 7, 21 The young lead is brilliant but many of the accents are hard to understand and this can detract from an excellent portrayal of the brutality and futility of war. 8
