MovieViews

The MovieMuse Reviews (MovieViews) database is a searchable collection of films that the team have watched, providing a comprehensive guide on what to watch and what to avoid. It provides a link to an in-depth review or a short opinion on the film and a rating, as well as a link to the film’s poster or DVD cover. For more recent entries we are also including a link to the film’s IMDb page and a trailer from YouTube.

You can search and sort the list by individual film names, genre, reviewer, score and other variables to inform you on whether a film is worth your time, or to inspire you for your next movie night.

We will also use the database to create periodic lists of the recommended films in all sorts of categories. These lists will be shared on the website and some will even come with a video.

Victoria 2016 5, 7, 10 A 130 minute single take movie that tells a beliveable and beautiful story in a unique way. Technically astounding and artistically exciting. 9
Black Mass 2015 5, 7 Tries to paint a picture of a killer without really getting inside his head. Depp's performance and the story/legend deserve a better movie. 6
War Dogs 2016 3, 4, 5, 20 A one sided tale of a partnership that is interesting and entertaining in equal measures, but simplifies the subject matter a little too much. 7
Blade Runner (Final Cut) 1982 14, 17, 20 The definitive version of a stunningly beautiful film that is virtually a work of art. Even the sound is art. The soundtrack, the dialogue, the visuals and the acting are one of a kind. This is closest to Scott's true vision as we will get. 10
Way of the Gun 2000 Action, 5 Click to see our Film Club review. 2.9
Bone Tomahawk 2015 1, 11, 22 Brutal from the very first scene. Doesn't have the sheen of Hateful 8, but is all the better for it. 8
Wiener Dog 2016 4, 7 Part genius, part self indulgent pretension. The over-long gratuity and poor final act swings the scale from awesome to slightly above average. 6
Bottle Rocket 1996 4, 5 Click here for our Film Club review. 2.6
Westworld 1973 1, 17, 20 Like the park it portrays, Westworld mixes jovial scenes with sinister thrills. Some of it has aged badly but it is a classy sci-fi thriller that deserves its legacy. 7
Boy and the World 2013 1, 2, 10 Amazing animation, but it feels like a tech demo rather than a thought through film and I tired of the story early. 5
When Marnie was There 2016 2, 7, 9 Thoughtful tale that gently deals with growing pains in a way only Japan seems able. 7
Breach 2007 3, 5, 7 I sat waiting for a twist that never came, but it still tells a believable tale of twisted internal affairs. 6
Wings of Desire 1987 9, 13 A serene film that show beauty in decay rather than glitter. The car showroom scene is an absolute joy. 8
Bridge of Spies 2015 15, 20 A little too 'Spielbergy' for my liking, but a great performance from Rylance and an interesting and unusual spy story. 7
X+Y: A Brilliant Mind 2014 7 Covering much more than the autism film it is billed as, x+y is a wonderful and touching tale. 8
Brighton Rock 1947 5, 7, 14, 20 Brilliant lead performances and a fantastically believable, but tragically doomed relationship between Pinky and Rose make for a heart wrenching end to a brilliant British noir thriller. 8
X-Men: Apocalypse 2016 Action, 1, 17 Shoddy effects and a pretty pathetic story, but a great start and some nice set pieces stop it being a complete failure. 6
Brooklyn 2015 7, 16 A nice and gentle tale that is beautifully shot and features great supporting performances from Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent. 8
You're Next 2011 11, 20 Clever, fun and very well shot mid-budget horror. All the clichés are there, but all executed perfectly (pun intended). 8
BrOTHERHOOD 2016 5, 7, 20 A good end to the trilogy with some touching and funny moments, but Clarke is ultimately too comfortable for a role like this. 7
Me, You and Everyone we Know 2005 4, 7 A charming film that has a feelgood vibe despite everyone's pains being front and centre. 8
Bullet to the Head 2012 Action Plays out like a violent twist on Tango & Cash. 6
Zoom 2015 2, 7 The concept is far better than the movie but it is still an enjoyable multi-dimensional adult soap opera. 7
Cactus Jack 1979 4, 22 Wile E Coyote crossed with a Carry On film. 4
Zootopia (Zootropolis) 2016 1, 2, 4 Clever, very funny and delivering a timely message. Disney's best animated movie for years. 8
