Gordon ‘SirClive’ Sinclair is the founder of MovieMuse. A child of the 70s with his heart in the eighties, his dream is to one day wake up like Alex Drake and relive that glorious decade.
A long time classic video gamer, Gordon founded Replay Events, a company dedicated to showcasing the best retro consoles and computers of the last 40 years.
With his unhealthy love of Stallone movies and an obsessive need to watch every film ever nominated for a major award, he is aways ready with an (un?)educated opinion.
Away from MovieMuse Gordon is an avid follower of Liverpool and Huddersfield Town football clubs and lives in Halifax with his Star Wars loving fiancée Nancy.
Gordon is responsible for the MovieMuse website and co-edits the MovieMuse podcast.

Gordon’s Reviews
Poster | Movie | Year | Comments | Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|
The Lady Vanishes | 2013 | A rather lacklustre retelling of a story made famous in the 30s by Alfred Hitchcock. Everyone on a train has a secret, but I found it hard to care about any of them. | 5 | |
Bend It Like Beckham | 2002 | A gentle feel-good tale of mild sexual and racial tensions when an Indian girl falls out with her family over football and romance. | 7 | |
Rise of the Planet of the Apes | 2011 | Depicting the calm before the storm, Rise is a magnificent start to a wonderfully reimagined trilogy. This is how to do a reboot! | 8 | |
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes | 2014 | Talking both the tension and the action up a notch, Dawn is easilly as good as Rise and cements Caesar as one of the best movie characters of the 00's. | 8 | |
The Brothers Bloom | 2008 | A sometimes fun globe-trotting con-caper is hamstrung by generally unlikable characters and a script that isn't as funny or clever as it thinks it is. | 6 | |
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker | 2019 | Despite some overly dramatic but ultimately shallow set pieces, TRoS provides a satisfactory conclusion to the saga and answers many of the questions posed in the preceding films. | 7 | |
Zog | 2018 | Another fine adaptation of a delightful Julia Donalson book. The story of perserverence told through a young dragon may not be up with the Gruffalo, but it isn't far off. | 7 | |
The Highway Rat | 2017 | As with other BBC productions of Julia Donaldson books the animation is absolutely top notch. However this is possibly the weakest story about a greedy rat's redemption. | 6 | |
The International | 2019 | An interesting but convoluted and generally ridiculous thriller about a nefarious bank and the Interpol officer looking to bring it down. | 6 | |
Marriage Story | 2019 | A touching tale of how divorce can corrupt even the most amicable of couples. Driver and Johansson are sublime and Baumbach's script and directing a joy. | 9 | |
The Two Popes | 2019 | The fascinating story of the conservative Pope and the liberal Cardinal who will eventually succeed him as they discuss the church, their lives and their fallibilities. Pryce and Hopkins are magnificent in the lead roles. | 8 | |
The Hunt for Red October | 1990 | This naval thriller about a mysterious Russian submarine in American waters gets the tension and pacing just right, but some of the accents (or lack of) are terrible and Alec Baldwin as lead character Jack Ryan seems a little superfluous. | 7 | |
Bombshell | 2019 | Bombshell is 2019s 'Spotlight' with a bit of 'The Big Short' and tells how sexual harassment ended the reign of the godfather of TV news. The inevitable Weistein scandal movie has a very high bar to reach if it wants to match this. | 8 | |
Patriot Games | 1992 | Swapping tension for action, Harrison Ford takes over as Jack Ryan and unlike Red October and Sean Connery's show stealing, he is every bit the lead in this rogue-IRA thriller. | 7 | |
For Sama | 2019 | A very personal account of the Syrian conflict with a great moral dilemma about bringing children into a war torn world. However it is not as hard hitting as other similar documents of life in Aleppo. | 7 | |
The 39 Steps | 1935 | A classic early Hitchcock film following an everyday Joe mixed up in spies and stolen plans. It shows all the hallmarks of greatness, but at nerly 85 years old it inevitably struggles when compared to modern thrillers with their twisty turny plots. | 6 | |
1917 | 2019 | A single shot (technically) portrait of WWI. At its best when upfront and personal with close camera work that reveals the full horror of war. But there is an unnecessary middle segment that is all too Hollywood and dragged me back into my comfort zone. | 8 | |
Clear and Present Danger | 1994 | Jack takes on the Columbian drug cartels and US president, at the same time. Certainly the most thrilling of the original Jack Ryan trilogy, but 3 films (and 2 actors) in I am still wondering why the character is so popular? | 7 | |
Parasite | 2019 | A family of wasters each land plum jobs with a rich family, but misfortune is just around the corner. A funny and touching satire on Korean poverty and wealth. | 8 | |
Klaus | 2019 | An alternative take on how the Santa legend was founded. A smart-mouthed and privileged post man is 'posted' to a remote town and sees the light. | 7 | |
The Great Hack | 2019 | A flashy look at the Cambridge Analytica scandal and how facebook data has corrupted political elections worldwide. Hard hitting, but the generally unlikable protagonists make it a harder watch than it could have been. | 7 | |
The Irishman | 2019 | Scorsese gets the band back together one last time in an epic mob story that whilst it never excites, is classy throughout. De Niro is a hitman recounting his life and his part in the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. | 8 | |
Sorry We Missed You | 2019 | Another depressing slice of real Britain in Ken Loach's indictment of the zero hour and gig economies. Not as powerful as I, Daniel Blake but still carries a punch. | 7 | |
American Factory | 2019 | Following the changing fortunes and culture clashes of the rust-belt when the workers in an American factory town when General Motors move out and a Chinese glass company move in. | 7 | |
Little Women | 2019 | Another adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's book. The first 40 minutes were a bit of a Walton's episode but I cared about the sisters and was interested in how it could be resolved without completely copping out and having Jo become the dutiful wife. | 8 |
