Gordon ‘SirClive’ Sinclair is the founder of MovieMuse. A child of the 70s with his heart in the eighties, his dream is to one day wake up like Alex Drake and relive that glorious decade.
A long time classic video gamer, Gordon founded Replay Events, a company dedicated to showcasing the best retro consoles and computers of the last 40 years.
With his unhealthy love of Stallone movies and an obsessive need to watch every film ever nominated for a major award, he is aways ready with an (un?)educated opinion.
Away from MovieMuse Gordon is an avid follower of Liverpool and Huddersfield Town football clubs and lives in Halifax with his Star Wars loving fiancée Nancy.
Gordon is responsible for the MovieMuse website and co-edits the MovieMuse podcast.

Gordon’s Reviews
Poster | Movie | Year | Comments | Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|
Self/Less | 2015 | An entertaining, but wholly predictable Bourne-alike body swap thriller that sees sick billionaire Ben Kinglsley's consciousness transferred to the body of Ryan Reynolds, only for the past to catch up with him. | 6 | |
Save Yourselves! | 2020 | When a New York couple decide to go off the grid for a week at a remote cabin in the woods, they miss the alien invasion. But it isn't long before it finds them. A gentle indie comedy that doesn't quite hit the heights it could have. | 7 | |
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya | 2013 | It has some very nice, simple and traditional animation, but the story is never going to hit you like Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies or other Studio Ghibli classics. | 6 | |
Beyond the Lights | 2014 | There is nothing particularly bad about this film (apart from a cringey Karaoke scene and a laughable portrayal of a British festival crowd), but there is also nothing especially good. A very average 'finding your own voice' film all round | 6 | |
Blue Jasmine | 2013 | Apart from annoying jazz segway music (to prove it is a Woody Allen), this amusing sibling drama is a very enjoyable film. Not sure if Blanchett gave the performance of her life or was hamming it up to 11 though. | 8 | |
The Good Dinosaur | 2015 | The Good Dinosaur is more of a feel good Disney film than a clever Pixar one. However I’m not sure if that is enough to condemn it history just yet and would not be surprised to see Arlo and Spot return for another big screen outing before too long. | 7 | |
Kung Fury | 2015 | Click to read our detailed review | 9 | |
Frank | 2014 | I came into this film expecting a bipoic of Chris Sievey (Frank Sidebottom), but what I got was an rather odd tale of a group of musicians led by a man in a Frank Sidebottom head. Some good performances, but I did feel the film dragged a little. | 6 | |
August: Osage County | 2013 | Dreary and depressing look at a dysfunctional family crisis. Well acted and nicely shot but I'm not sure of the point to the movie, or even if it is trying to make one. | 5 | |
Unbroken | 2014 | It is a brutal story, but even in the most traumatic scenes there is a glossy Team America sheen that refuses to go away. Anglina Jolie's film is a story that needed telling, it just needed someone else to tell it. | 5 | |
Inherent Vice | 2014 | A drug fuelled PI searches for his missing ex-girlfriend. This 70s kidnap caper is more of an experience than a film, an absolute joy, but completely off its head. If it wasn't for the subject matter I am sure Joaquin Phoenix could have walked the Best A | 8 | |
A Most Violent Year | 2014 | Despite the name (a more apt title would have been A Bad Year to do Business), this is a very good tale of the American Dream and how difficult it is to achieve. Like Scarface, had Tony Montana been a legitimate business man. | 8 | |
Two Days, One Night | 2014 | Sandra has a weekend to save her job after her colleagues take a bonus in exchange for her dismissal. A pretty ludicrous premise, but interestingly played out. | 7 | |
Maleficent | 2014 | This back story to Sleeping bueaty centres on the evil fairy rather than the heroine. I like films that twist a well known story and Maleficent does it better than most. | 7 | |
Selma | 2014 | This wonderful chronicle of the epic march to secure equal voting rights in 60s America is another tragedy of the awards season. How Ooyelowo was overlooked for best actor nominations god only knows. | 8 | |
Begin Again | 2013 | Failing music exec and beautiful young songwriter bring their talents together. Once again, Mark Ruffalo's performance drags a very average film up and makes it watchable. | 6 | |
Interstellar | 2014 | Space explorers must travel through a wormhole in an attempt to save humanity. The film wonderfully explores time and loss and has superb score to boot. | 9 | |
Into the Woods | 2014 | An interesting twist on traditional fairy tales. It could have done without the annoying Red Riding Hood singing voice, but overall no where near as bad as I feared. | 7 | |
Ida | 2013 | Like every stereotype of cold war eastern bloc films it really isn't very accessible. Black and white, subtitled, 4:3 aspect ratio, no score, religious themed, slow paced. But I still found it quite intriguing. | 6 | |
Mr. Turner | 2014 | A fascinating account of the painter J.M.W. Turner. It is unbelievable that Timothy Spall was overlooked by BAFTA for his performance. | 8 | |
The Interview | 2014 | Journalists travel to North Korea with a secret CIA mission. One or two mildly funny bits raise it above dreadful, but it never comes close to being good. | 4 | |
Wild | 2014 | Apart from the bad girl scenes where I just couldn't accept Witherspoon as a druggy-nympho, Wild is an interesting and well directed tale of someone walking themself back to the person they want to be. | 8 | |
Boyhood | 2014 | As an experiment of making a film over a long period it is fine (though they do overdo the iconography in the early years), but with no story at all it feels more like 5 episodes of a dull soap opera than a movie. | 6 | |
American Sniper | 2014 | A thought provoking true story of the casualties of war as sniper Chris Kyle tries to deal with the path he has taken. | 8 | |
Foxcatcher | 2014 | Another interesting story dragged out into tedium. Further let down but Tatum playing half the film like he is retarded and half like he is not. The director also overuses the profile shot of Carrell's prosthetic nose. Ruffallo is great though. | 5 |
